Not everyone will receive a tax form from Venmo. You can read more about current tax laws to understand whether you can expect to receive tax forms from Venmo.
When will my tax documents be available?
Tax documents for the previous calendar year are issued in the first few months of the new year. We’ll notify you in the Venmo app and send an email to the address on file with your account when your tax documents are available. See below for estimated issuance dates for specific forms:
- 1099-K (for goods and services payments): January 31st
- 1099-MISC (for fiat currency rewards): February 15th
- 1099-MISC (for cryptocurrency rewards): February 15th
- 1099-DA (for crypto sales and exchanges): February 15th
Fiat is a government issued currency like the U.S. dollar that is backed by the government that issues it.
You can view and download your tax forms in the Tax Document Center in the Venmo app or on the Venmo website. See our Tax FAQ for more details on tax forms you may receive from Venmo.
How can I view or download my tax documents from Venmo?
By default, Venmo issues tax documents to qualifying Users electronically.
If you created your Venmo account prior to July 22nd, 2022, you may also receive physical tax documents by mail. You can opt-in to electronic delivery from the “Tax Documents” page via your Settings.
You can view or download electronic copies of your tax documents from your Venmo app or from a desktop computer:
In the Venmo app:
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap the Settings gear
- Tap Tax Documents
- Tap the Download button for any forms you want to see
On the Venmo website:
- Click Settings (in the sidebar)
- Click Tax Documents
- Click the Download button for any forms you want to see
If you do not see any tax documents available for download, you may not have qualified to receive them from Venmo or they may not have been issued yet.
Something on my tax document doesn’t look correct
If you notice an error in a tax form you received from Venmo, you can request a correction by signing in to your account on the Venmo website. Learn more about requesting updates to your tax information on Venmo.
Why am I being prompted to “Go paperless”?
If you qualify to receive tax documents from Venmo, you can choose to receive those documents electronically rather than by physical mail.
Can I opt out of receiving tax documents by mail?
If you don’t want to receive physical tax documents, you can opt-in to electronic delivery in your Venmo app:
- Open the Settings menu on your *affected profile
- Tap Tax Documents
- Tap Go paperless
You may also have received a notification prompting you to opt in to electronic delivery. If you choose to opt in, you should see a success notification after doing so.
*Venmo users who own a business profile and receive payments for goods and services through a personal profile will need to opt into electronic delivery (if desired) on each profile individually.
If you change your mind and want to opt out of electronic delivery, please contact our Support team.
To reach the Venmo Support team, go to Me > Settings > Get Help > Chat With Us in your Venmo app and ask for an agent.
You can check out Connect with Support on the Contact Us page for other options.
I want to receive my tax documents by mail. How can I ensure that Venmo has my correct address?
We recommend first making sure that you qualify to receive tax documents from Venmo. If you haven’t received any payments for goods and services on Venmo, we won’t issue a 1099-K to you.
If you do qualify for tax documents and need to update your address, grab proof of your current address, like a utility bill, and contact our Support team.
