How do I set up my Venmo account to make purchases using QR codes?
Your Venmo account is already set up to start using QR codes in stores.
- Go to the Me tab in your Venmo app
- Tap the QR code next to your profile picture.
- You may need to follow the on-screen prompts to allow your camera to scan codes.
If you don’t see a Show to Pay QR code, please make sure you are using the most up-to-date version of the Venmo app.
How do I use Venmo QR codes in stores?
There are two ways to use Venmo QR codes to make purchases.
If the merchant is presenting you with a QR code, simply scan that code to proceed with the transaction. You’ll need to confirm the purchase in your app to complete the transaction.
If the merchant needs to scan your in-store QR code, tap Show to Pay to present your QR code.
If you need to change your payment method, you’ll need to do so before the merchant scans your code.
Where can I use Venmo QR codes in stores?
Venmo QR codes are supported at stores around the U.S. You can check with the merchant to see if they're accepting Venmo QR code payments. We’re working to expand to more stores in the future.
What are the requirements for using in-store QR codes?
There are a few requirements for using Venmo QR codes to make in-store purchases:
- The merchant needs to be in the U.S. and accept Venmo QR code payments
- Your Venmo app needs to be up to date (version 7.53 or later)
- You need to allow the Venmo app to use your phone’s camera to scan a merchant’s QR code
- Your selected debit card, credit card, bank account, or Venmo balance (if you have access to a Venmo balance) needs to be able to cover the cost of the transaction.
Does Venmo offer any refunds for my purchases made at participating businesses?
Yes, when you use Venmo to make purchases at participating businesses, your purchases may be eligible for the Venmo Purchase Program.

Will I be charged a fee when I pay with Venmo at participating businesses?
Venmo does not charge you a transaction fee for purchasing items from participating businesses, even if those purchases are funded using a credit card.

What are my limits?
Can I use in-store QR codes for international purchases?
Venmo is a U.S. based company, and along with our other services (payments to friends, Venmo Debit Card transactions), in-store QR codes are only supported in the U.S.
What is the difference between my “Venmo Me” and my “Show to Pay” QR codes?
Both the Venmo Me and the Show to Pay sections use QR codes, but they are used for different things. The Show to Pay QR code is an easy way to make in-store payments. The Venmo Me QR code can help you find friends and family on Venmo.
I’m a merchant — how can I accept Venmo QR code payments?
If you are a merchant and interested in accepting Venmo QR codes at your business, please reach out to your Point of Sale (POS) provider. Venmo does not provide support for individual merchant’s POS systems.
