What kind of payments can be sent to my Venmo account?
Your Venmo Direct Deposit account can be used to receive Direct Deposit funds from many sources, including the government. You can provide your Venmo Direct Deposit account number to the government for unemployment payments, tax refunds, Social Security payments, and more. Venmo’s Direct Deposit feature allows for recurring payments, such as unemployment funds, or one-time payments, such as tax returns.
When providing your Direct Deposit details to an employer or other issuer, please be sure to confirm your account and routing numbers as they appear in your Venmo app. By failing to provide the issuer with your correct account and routing numbers, Venmo may be unable to deliver your funds to the correct account. Venmo is not responsible for the non-delivery of funds based on incorrect account information provided.
How do I set up Direct Deposit on Venmo?
You have the ability to add funds to your Venmo account using Direct Deposit if you have completed the required identity verification and if you are otherwise eligible for Direct Deposit. We determine eligibility for Direct Deposit at our sole discretion.

When will I receive my Direct Deposit funds from the government?
The exact arrival time of funds sent using Direct Deposit can vary, so it’s best to check in with the issuer (IRS, state unemployment office, etc.). If you’re switching from checks to Direct Deposit payments, it may take up to two pay cycles for the Direct Deposit feature to take effect.
Venmo will post funds added through Direct Deposit to your account as soon as we receive notice from the issuer.
If you expected to receive funds in your Venmo account through the Direct Deposit feature and you did not receive such funds, please reach out to the issuer to confirm that the payment was sent.
Note: we do not receive this information instantly, so there will be some delay between the payment being sent by your employer and the payment arriving to Venmo. Funds sent through Direct Deposit may be delayed in the event of a federal or bank holiday.
