When you tag a payment as a purchase your payment will be covered by the Venmo Purchase Protection, if eligible, and the seller (recipient) will pay an associated fee. Eligibility criteria for the Venmo Purchase Program can be found in the User Agreement.
If there's an issue with the purchase, like if you receive something that’s different from what you bought, an item was damaged in shipping, parts are missing, or your purchase never arrives, please contact us as soon as possible. We’ll investigate any eligible purchases that did not go as planned, and you may receive a refund if the investigation is decided in your favor.

I tagged a payment to another user’s personal profile as a purchase and the seller didn’t fulfill their end of the agreement. Can I dispute the payment?
If you’re having an issue with a payment you tagged as a purchase, we encourage you to work directly with the recipient (seller). For situations where you didn’t receive what you paid for or a service was not rendered, you have the option to dispute the payment in your Venmo app. Filing a dispute will open a formal investigation so Venmo can help mediate the issue for eligible purchases.
To open a dispute in your Venmo app, follow these steps:
- Go to the Me tab
- Select the transaction you want to dispute
- Tap Need Help?
- Select the statement that best describes your situation
- To include other transactions, select Add more
- After selecting the transactions you want to dispute, tap Add
- Tap Next
- Add any additional information
- Tap Submit Issue
Please note: Failing to provide certain information may delay the resolution of your case. If you are having trouble disputing your transaction, please contact our Support team.
