What is a Venmo Teen Account?
If you're under 18 and want to use Venmo, today's your lucky day! Venmo offers a Teen Account for anyone 13-17 years old, created by a parent or guardian.
What's so special about Venmo Teen Accounts? You'll get:
- A Venmo Teen Mastercard ® debit card with your name on it
- Access to the Venmo app to send and receive money and track the Teen Account balance
- Ability to set up Direct Deposit to get your paycheck into the Teen Account balance
How do I open a Teen Account?
If you're 13-17 years old, you can now start creating a Venmo Teen Account that will be linked to your parent’s Venmo account! Here's how the process works:
🌱 Getting Started:
- Download the Venmo app and select Create a Teen Account
- Enter your phone number and verify it with a 4-digit code
- Fill in the requested information, including name, date of birth, and email
- Choose your Venmo Teen Debit Card color and enter your shipping address
- Provide your parent or guardian's name and phone number
What's Next?
Your parent or guardian needs to approve the account within 14 days. Until then, your account will be inactive, but you can:
- Log into the app
- Send up to two reminders to your parent or guardian to approve the account
- Edit your parent or guardian’s information if you made a mistake
- Set up Face ID or PIN for extra security
❗️The Teen Account will be inactive until your parent or guardian approves it. Once approved, we’ll unlock more features and you’ll be able to start using Venmo.
If you already have a regular Venmo account (which is only for people 18+), you'll need to close it. During the Teen Account setup, Venmo will guide you through closing the old account so you can properly set up the Teen Account.
How will my parent or guardian know I created an account?
🔔Your parent or guardian may be notified in one of several ways:
- Push notifications on their phone (if they have Venmo)
- Notifications in their Venmo app
- You can send them up to two reminder text messages directly from the Teen Account
- Venmo will also send your parent or guardian a reminder email after 13 days if they haven't responded.
👎 If your parent or guardian chooses not to approve the account or doesn’t respond:
- The Teen Account will be permanently closed, you and your parent or guardian will be notified via email (if they have a Venmo account)
- All your information will be removed from Venmo
👍 If your parent or guardian approves:
- The Teen Account becomes fully active right away
- You can start sending and receiving money within the Teen Account limits
- Your Venmo Teen Debit Card will be mailed to you
- You can set up Direct Deposit for your paychecks
- You’ll get access to all the normal Teen Account features and limits
- To see the changes, you might need to refresh the app by reloading the "Me" screen or closing and reopening the app
What should I do if I'm having trouble during setup or need help?
If you run into problems during setup:
- Check your internet connection to ensure it's stable
- Close and reopen the app if it's not working properly
- Make sure you've filled out all required information correctly
- Verify that your parent or guardian has the Venmo app and a properly set up account
If you need additional help or have questions: Your parent or guardian will need to contact Venmo Support if you run into any issues. They can do this by following the steps below.
- Go to the Me tab
- Select the Settings icon
- Tap Get Help
- Select Chat With Us in the Venmo app.

What can I do with my Venmo Teen Account?
There are a few cool things you can do with a Venmo Teen Account and the Venmo app:
- Use the teen debit card to make purchases at approved merchants or get cash at an ATM
- Send and receive money with your friends and family
- View transactions and your Teen Account balance
- Get money from your paychecks added to your Teen Account balance using Direct Deposit
Payment & Transfer limits for Teen Accounts
Your Venmo Teen Account has different limits for different activities:
- Teen Venmo Debit Card purchases: $3,000 per day and $7,000 per week
- ATM withdrawals: $400 per day
- Payments to other Venmo users: $2,000 per week
- This includes payments sent to your parent or guardian's account
- Pay with Venmo purchases: $2,000 per week
Most payment limits on Venmo are weekly rolling limits. This means that a transaction will count towards your limit for 7 days. For example, if you make a purchase for $100 at 11:00 on a Monday, it would count towards your purchase limit until the following Monday at the same time.
