Payment Notes
When you send a payment or request on Venmo, you need to include a payment note. This can be a quick description of what the payment is for, or whatever else you want to write. Payment notes are limited to 280 characters.
You can also tag other Venmo users in the note to keep other friends in the loop – you and your payment partner just need to make sure your privacy settings allow the other user to see the note first.
Emojis
If you want to get creative with your payment notes, check out Venmo's custom emoji recommendations as you type! We'll recommend certain emojis (or emoji groups) related to your note to help you celebrate in style.
These emoji aren’t a part of the Unicode consortium, so you’ll only see them on Venmo and Venmo payments sent through iMessage.
You can turn off emoji suggestions if you'd rather not use them. Just follow these steps in your Venmo app:
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap the Settings gear in the top right
- Tap Emoji
- Tap the toggle for "Suggest While Typing"
Giftwrapping
If you want to make your Venmo payment a little more special, you can gift wrap it before sending. When the recipient opens your gift payment, they'll be shown a short animation with the theme you selected.
To gift wrap a payment, enter the amount and a note, then follow these steps:
- Tap the Gift icon
- Select Cash at the top of the page
- Select your preferred theme or animation (a preview will play on your screen)
- Tap Continue
- Confirm your payment details and tap Pay
You also have the option to send a gift card by selecting the Gift card toggle instead of Cash.
