Why is Venmo sending a code to confirm my identity?
All Venmo accounts are protected by Multifactor Authentication (MFA). Learn more about login security on Venmo.
I can't access my old phone or email to receive the sign-in code
If your phone was lost or stolen, follow these steps to secure your account:
First, revoke your phone’s access to your Venmo account:
- Log in from a computer you’ve used before
- If you don’t have a trusted device, complete identity verification to sign in
- Go to Settings > Security
- Click “Forget” to log out all other sessions (except your current one)
You should also reset your password right away if you think it's been compromised.
If you can't sign in from an old device, follow these steps to access your Venmo account:
- On the login screen, enter your username, email, or old phone number with your password.
- On the next screen, tap “Other options” or “I don’t have access to this phone” to verify your identity.
If those options aren’t available, contact Support. They’ll ask for:
- Your full name
- Email and old phone number linked to the account
- Bank details (full routing + last 4 digits of the account number) or card info (first 6 and last 4 digits)
To reach the Venmo Support team, go to the Contact Us page and check out the options under Connect with Support. If you don’t have access to the Venmo app, you may need to call our team for help.
Please do not provide the full card number or bank account number for your security.
Once you’re logged in, be sure to update your phone number to prevent further access issues.
Venmo is sending a code to a phone number I don’t recognize
Even if your access code is sent to a number you don't own, no one will be able to access your Venmo account or any connected profiles without your password.
If you think the person who received the code knows your password, you can reset your password.
