Over the coming months, Venmo users and PayPal users will gain the ability to pay each other across platforms. This option will become available in the U.S. first, with additional global markets to follow. On Venmo, you’ll be able to search for eligible PayPal users by their phone number, and you’ll appear in PayPal results too.
You can manage your privacy settings for Venmo and PayPal to change your visibility.
Can I use Venmo to pay and request payments from people on PayPal?
Requests across platforms aren’t possible right now. Venmo and PayPal users can send payments to one another. To find a PayPal user on Venmo, enter their phone number when searching or starting a payment.
If you can’t find the person you’re looking for:
- Double-check that you’ve entered the full phone number associated with the recipient’s PayPal account
- Ask the recipient to check their Search privacy settings and make sure their account is visible on Venmo
- It’s possible that the feature isn’t yet available in the recipient’s country or region
Are there any fees to send money to a PayPal account?
There are no fees to send money from Venmo to PayPal within the U.S. using your Venmo balance, debit card, or bank account. International payment fees may apply for money sent internationally. All fees and currency conversion rates will be shown up front before you complete your payment, so there’s no hidden fees or surprises. The currency conversion rate shown includes a spread.
Are there any limits to send money to a PayPal account?
There are limits when sending money internationally:
- Per Transaction: $2,500
- Daily Limit: $5,000
- Weekly Limit: $10,000
- Monthly: $25,000
Additional limits may apply. Learn more about Venmo limits.
How long will it take for the PayPal recipient to get my payment?
If you send money from Venmo to someone’s PayPal account, they’ll usually see it right away once the payment is completed. Timing varies depending on your recipient’s country or region.
- Within the U.S.: Payments between Venmo and PayPal users are typically instant.
- Across borders: International payments may take a little longer, depending on the country, local currency, and how the recipient’s account is set up. In most cases, transfers complete within a few minutes once approved.
You’ll see the payment status under Transactions in your Venmo app. If it’s marked as “Completed,” the money has been sent.
I sent a payment to the wrong person on PayPal
Most Venmo payments are made right away, so there’s no way to cancel them. For issues with international payments (sent to a PayPal user in another country), please see our article on International Payments.
