Venmo Charity Profile Setup Guide

Who can create a Venmo charity profile?

Venmo charity profiles are available for charitable organizations and 501(c)(3)s. To create a Venmo charity profile, you’ll need to start out with our parent company, PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal business account yet, click here to get started on PayPal.

If you already have a PayPal business account, there are just a few requirements to open a Venmo charity profile:

  1. The owner of your PayPal charity account must be the same person who will own the Venmo account. (At this time, it's not possible to transfer ownership of a Venmo account or profile.)
  2. Your charity status must be confirmed on PayPal.

How can I create a Venmo charity profile?

1. Start with PayPal

Your Venmo charity profile starts on PayPal, where you’ll connect your non-profit business account to our platform. Don’t have a PayPal business account yet? Sign up for a PayPal business account to get started.

To avoid any issues in creating or accessing your Venmo charity profile, please ensure that the owner of your PayPal charity account is the same person who will own and manage the Venmo account. The account owner names must match between platforms and cannot be changed.

Once your PayPal business account is set up, follow these steps to begin creating your Venmo charity profile:

  1. Confirm your charity status. You can find this option in your PayPal business account Notifications or go to the PayPal charities dashboard to check your status.
  2. Once your charity status is confirmed, go to the PayPal App Center and search for “Venmo charity profiles.”
  3. Click Get Started, and your PayPal charity info will be shared with Venmo to start your charity profile setup. The rest of this process will happen on Venmo.

2. Finish with Venmo

Once you’ve been moved over to Venmo, follow these steps to finish setting up your Venmo charity profile:

  1. On the Venmo landing page, click Create a charity profile if you don’t already have a Venmo account. If you already have a Venmo account and your name is associated with the PayPal charity account, click Use your Venmo login instead.
    • Note: Using your existing Venmo login will connect the charity profile to your personal Venmo account.
  2. Enter and verify the phone number you want to use for the Venmo charity profile, then add your account email address and create a password.
  3. Review and Agree to Venmo’s User Agreement and Privacy Statement.
  4. Finish setting up your Venmo charity profile by creating a username, choosing a category, filling out the description, and adding profile and background photos.
  5. Preview your profile to get a look at what donors will see when they visit your Venmo charity, then click Publish if everything looks good.

You’ll see a confirmation screen if your Venmo charity profile has been created successfully. At this point, you can continue using and managing your charity profile from the Venmo app.

If there are any issues preventing us from publishing your Venmo charity profile, follow the on-screen instructions to address the issue. Learn more about Venmo charity signup errors and what they mean.

I don’t have a PayPal account. Can I still create a Venmo charity profile?
