How do I set up my Venmo Teen Account?
To finish setting up your Teen Account follow the steps below.
- Click the link your parent or guardian texted you.
- If you don’t have the Venmo app installed, we’re going to ask you to install our app
- Tap Get Started
- Add your phone number, tap Send code
- Add the code we texted you, then tap Confirm it
- We will have you verify your phone number with us
- If you run into any issues here, please have your parent or guardian reach out to us
- Add in your personal information and create a username
- Be sure to use your legal first and last name
- Create your unique password
- Select Next
- You’re ready to start using Venmo!
How can I add money to my Venmo Teen Account?
Any funds received to your Teen Account will be added to the Venmo Teen Account balance. Money in your Teen Account can come from a few different sources:
- Payments from the parent or guardian account
- Payments from friends or family on Venmo
- Paychecks received via Direct Deposit (for Teen Accounts with app access only)
How do I receive payments to my Venmo Teen Account?
Teen Account can receive payments through scanning the Teen Account’s QR code or by sending a payment to the phone number or email linked to the Teen Account.
By default, Teen Accounts are not searchable by users who are not their friends and are only visible in the search results of accepted friends on Venmo.
To have your Teen Account searchable by name or username, you must change your search visibility settings. Search visibility is a security feature managed by your parent or guardian.
- Teen Accounts will populate in search for any users accepted as a friend of the Teen Account on Venmo, regardless of the search setting selected
How to find your Teen Account QR Code:
- Go to the Scan tab
- Tap Venmo me near the top of the screen to view your QR code
From this screen, you can print or share your QR code outside of Venmo.
How do I check the balance on my Venmo Teen Account?
You can check your Teen Account balance when you log in to Venmo. Here's how:
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap Wallet
- Look under "Venmo Balance"
How do I send money to my friends?
You can send payments to friends and family on Venmo. Here's how to start a new payment or request:
- Tap Pay/Request at the bottom of the screen
- Search and add the person you want to
- Enter an amount and add a note
- Tap Request or Pay
How do I add a bank or card to my Venmo Teen Account?
You can add a bank or card to your Teen Account for sending payments or making in-store QR code purchases (if there’s not enough money in the Teen Account balance to cover the total amount).

- Go to the Me tab by tapping your picture or initials
- Go to the Wallet section
- Tap Add a bank or card
- Then select Bank
- Select your preferred verification method
💳 How to add a Card:
- Go to the Me tab by tapping your picture or initials
- Go to the Wallet section
- Tap Add a bank or card
- Then select Card
- Add your debit card details
Double-check with your parent or guardian that the card or bank account you want to add to Venmo can be used. Your parent or guardian will also receive notification that you have added the bank or card to the Teen Account.
How can I transfer funds to my bank
Once you've added your bank account and verified it, you can use the Venmo app to send the money in your Venmo account to that bank, using the Standard or Instant method.
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap the Add or Transfer button under Wallet (some users may see a Manage button instead).
- Enter or edit the amount you want to transfer to your bank
- Tap Instant (for a small fee) or 1-3 Biz Days (for no fee), then select the bank account or debit card you want to use for your transfer
- Confirm your transfer details, then tap the green Transfer button

How can I add money to my Venmo Balance
You can add money to your Venmo balance directly within the Venmo app.
Follow these steps to initiate the add money transfer:
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap Add Money
- Select From a bank or debit card
- Enter your amount and choose what payment method you want to use
- Tap Add
Once the transfer is initiated, you cannot cancel it. Here are just a few things to keep in mind:
- You don’t need to have money in your Venmo account to make payments to other Venmo users. You can fund payments to other Venmo users using a linked payment method
- If you change your mind after initiating a transfer to your Venmo balance, you can transfer it back to your bank once it is completed.
- If your transfer to your Venmo balance fails, you will be notified via email, and the funds will not move from your bank to your Venmo balance
- You can check the status of your transfer in the Venmo app, in your personal transactions feed under the Me tab
How do I update my profile settings on my Venmo Teen Account?
You can make changes to your first name, last name, username, password, email, and phone number by following the steps below:
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap the Settings gear
- Tap Account
- Select Profile or Phone Number
