Using Your Venmo Teen Account

Set up your Venmo Teen Account

When your parent or guardian starts your Venmo Teen Account, you'll get a text message with an invite link to join Venmo. If you don't already have the Venmo app installed, you'll need to do that first.
Then, tap the invite link from your parent or guardian and follow these steps in your Venmo app to connect to their account:
  1. Tap Get Started
  2. Enter your phone number, then tap Send code
  3. Enter the code we texted you, then tap Confirm it
    • You'll also be asked to confirm your parent or guardian's info
    • If you have any issues with this step, have your parent or guardian contact Venmo Support for help
Now it's time to add your info. Enter your legal first and last name, date of birth, and email address, and create a unique username and password for your Teen Account. When everything looks good, tap Next, and you're all set!

Getting money into your Venmo Teen Account

There are a few ways you can get paid with your Teen Account:

  • Receive Payments from your parent or guardian
  • Receive Payments from friends or family on Venmo
  • Receive Paychecks via Direct Deposit

When you get money on Venmo, it goes into your Teen Account balance. You can then use that money to pay other people or make purchases at approved merchants.

Who can pay your Teen Account

Anyone on Venmo can pay your Teen Account after scanning your Teen Account QR code. They can also send a payment to the phone number or email address you used when setting up your account.

By default, your Teen Account won't show up in search results on Venmo. If you want other Venmo users to be able to find your account through Search, you can add them as a friend or have your parent/guardian enable search visibility for your account first.

Find and share your QR code

Open your Venmo app and share your Teen Account QR code to help others find you. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Scan tab
  2. Tap Venmo me (near the top of the screen)

Other Venmo users can scan your code to go to your profile and add you as a friend or send & request money. Show, print, or share your QR code outside of Venmo with the buttons below your code.

Check your Teen Account balance

You can check your Teen Account balance in the Venmo app. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Me tab
  2. Tap Wallet
  3. Look under "Venmo Balance"

Send money to friends

You can use your Teen Account to send payments to friends and family on Venmo. Here's how to start a new payment or request from the Venmo app:

  1. Tap Pay/Request at the bottom of the screen
  2. Search and add the person you want to pay
  3. Enter an amount and add a note
  4. Tap Request or Pay

Add a bank or card to your Venmo Teen Account

You can add a bank or card to your Teen Account for sending payments or making in-store QR code purchases (if there’s not enough money in the Teen Account balance to cover the total amount).

At this time, you won't be able to transfer money from your Venmo Teen Account directly to a bank. If you want to get your money out of Venmo, you can send it to your parent/guardian or use your Venmo Teen Debit Card to get cash at an ATM.

Here's how to add a bank to your Teen Account:

  1. Go to the Me tab
  2. Go to the Wallet section
  3. Tap Add a bank or card
  4. Select Bank
  5. Select your preferred verification method and enter the requested info

Here's how to add a card to your Teen Account:

  1. Go to the Me tab
  2. Go to the Wallet section
  3. Tap Add a bank or card
  4. Select Card
  5. Add your debit card details

Double-check with your parent or guardian that the card or bank account you want to add to Venmo can be used. Your parent or guardian will also receive notification that you have added the bank or card to the Teen Account. Teen Accounts cannot transfer funds in or out of Venmo.
