Venmo places a limit on the number of cards a user can add to their account for security reasons. There are two limits on the number of cards you may add to your Venmo account:
- Users can have up to 6 active cards in their account at any given time
- Additionally, there is an 8 card limit on the number of cards (including deleted/removed cards) over a 6 month rolling period that a user may have
The 8 card rolling limit means that once you add a card to Venmo, it will count against your card limit for 6 months, even if you delete it. So, a card applies to this 8 card limit if it is (1) still on file with your account or (2) was added fewer than 6 months ago.
If you are getting an error message that you've reached the limit, please try deleting one of the active 6 cards from your Venmo account. Once you remove a card, please try adding your new card again.
If the error message persists, you are likely hitting the second rolling limit and will need to wait until it’s been 6 months since you first added a card. At this time, Venmo is not able to increase your limit above 8 cards.
