Contact info like phone numbers and email addresses can only be associated with one active Venmo account at a time. If your info is already in use, read on for help.
Why is Venmo saying my phone number or email address is already registered?
If you received an error message during sign-up stating that your email address or phone number is already registered, this means that there is an active Venmo account associated with that information.
What can I do if my contact info is already registered to another Venmo account?
- Email address: If you have never signed up for Venmo and your email address is on file, check your inbox for an email from Venmo with the subject line “Verify your email”. Then, click the link at the bottom asking “Wasn’t You? Report this email here”. This will send a report to our Account Specialists so they can investigate.
- Phone number: If you didn't create the Venmo account using your phone number, please contact our Support team directly so we can assist. You may be asked to provide proof of ownership of your phone number, like a phone bill.
Note: Losing service or stopping midway through the signup process can also cause accounts to be created by mistake.
