Phone or Email Already Registered

Why is Venmo saying my phone number or email address is already registered?

If you received an error message during sign-up stating that your email address or phone number is already registered, this means that there is an active Venmo account associated with that information.

If you have an old Venmo account you can't access, learn more about signing in from a new device.

My email is registered to a Venmo account to a stranger's Venmo account

It's possible someone else added your email address to their Venmo account, accidentally or otherwise.

If your email address is linked to a stranger's Venmo account, you can report it to our team:

  1. Find the email with the subject line "Verify your email"
  2. At the bottom of the message, tap Wasn't You? Report this email here
