Business profiles allow Venmo users to accept payments for the sale of goods and services from customers on Venmo. Whether you’re selling homemade planters at a craft fair, serving up one-of-a-kind haircuts, or mowing lawns, a business profile makes it easy for your customers to find and pay you on Venmo.
Who can create a business profile?
Business profiles are built for individuals, or sole proprietors, associations/clubs, and registered businesses. They allow Venmo users to create a separate Venmo profile linked to their account to accept payments for goods and services. It’s worth noting that business profiles are subject to fees and tax reporting requirements.
We’re working to make business profiles available to all users, and you’ll see the option to create one in your app when the feature is available to you.
If you already have a personal Venmo account: Once you have the Venmo app open, go to the "Me" tab. Look for the “+ Create Business Profile” option near the top of your screen and follow the prompts.
If you're new to Venmo: You’ll be required to create a personal account if you’re also interested in creating a business profile. During signup, you’ll have the option to create both of them at once!

What are the benefits to using a business profile?
Business profiles are designed with your business needs in mind. By creating a business profile, you’ll gain access to specialized features like enhanced payments and more.
Some benefits of creating a business profile include, but are not limited to:
- Increased visibility for your business in the Venmo feed
- Ability to generate referrals among socially engaged Venmo users
- Options to provide potential customers with more information about your business, including links to a website and social media accounts
- In-app photo gallery to feature products and services (only available for some industries)
- Ability to refund customers directly from the Venmo app
- Separate and higher limits on payments and bank transfers from your business profile
- Formal tax documentation for business profiles that meet or exceed federal and state reporting thresholds
- Ability to enable tipping on payments your business receives
- QR Kits for easy, touch-free payment options
Can I get a Venmo Debit Card for my business profile?
Not yet. You can only apply for a Venmo debit card for your personal Venmo profile. For more information about transferring funds between your personal and business profile, visit this article.
How do customers find my business profile on Venmo?
Venmo users can find your business profile by searching for your business name or username. Search results can also be narrowed to include only businesses, making it easier for potential customers to find the correct profile.
Once you create your business profile, you and your customers can share the profile on social media and other platforms outside Venmo to get the word out.
To make sure that your business appears in searches, you’ll need to opt-in to the “Search” marketing feature. This feature is enabled by default for new businesses, but you can confirm this or disable it by tapping “Market your business profile” in the “Settings” section of the app.
To help your business be discovered by new potential customers, existing customers will have the option to share any payments they send to your profile. When shared, payments you receive are highlighted in customers’ social feeds on Venmo. Highlighted posts feature additional details about your business, including your username, background photo, and the names of any other friends who’ve paid you.

When a customer is paying you in person, the easiest way for them to find you is scanning your Venmo QR code. You can find your code by tapping “Scan” at the bottom of the app and then tapping “My Code.”

How do I close my business profile?
It is worth noting that you can close your business profile while keeping your personal profile active. If you’d like to close your business profile, please contact us.
At this time, business profiles cannot be reactivated once they’ve been closed. Additionally, in compliance with tax requirements, you may need to complete identity verification in order to close your Venmo account.
What should I do about disputes?
If there’s a problem with a purchase, whether you’re the business or the customer, please reach out to the other party in the transaction first. They should be able to assist further.
