Learn how to connect with your favorite charities on Venmo and donate right from your Venmo app.
How can I find charities on Venmo?
Charity profiles will always stand out if you see them in your Venmo feed – just look for the blue “verified” checkmark . You can also search for charities on Venmo if you’re looking to donate to a specific organization. Here’s how:
- Tap the Pay/Request button
- In the Search bar, enter the name of the charity you’re looking for
- Tap the Charities filter to see verified charity profiles
If you’ve already donated to a specific charity, you’ll also see their profile listed under “Top Charities” before you begin a search.
To browse more charities on Venmo, select Make a donation after tapping the search bar. This takes you to a new page where you can search for charities by name or browse by category. Tap the slider button next to the search bar to apply filters to your search. From here, you can select categories and causes you want to support.
How can I donate to a Venmo charity profile?
If you’ve found a verified charity you want to donate to, all you’ll need to do is tap the Donate button on their profile to begin your donation. Then, follow these steps to complete the process:
- Select a preset donation amount or enter an amount using your keyboard
- Enter a note for your donation
- Tap Donate
- We’ll redirect you to your web browser to process your donation
- Tap Donate again
Next, you can return to Venmo or share your activity externally, via text, email, or social media. If your Venmo activity is shared publicly or with friends, they’ll see your donation and note in the Venmo feed.
Why is there a blue checkmark on this charity profile?
The blue checkmark next to a charity’s name shows you that the charity has verified their status with PayPal, who confirms that information with the IRS. This checkmark should give some peace of mind that you’re donating to an authorized, registered charity on Venmo.
Personal profiles and business profiles won’t have a blue checkmark, so you can always confirm that you’re donating to a verified charity when you see the blue checkmark.
Are there any fees to donate to charities on Venmo?
Donation fees are charged to the charity profile rather than the donor. If you donate using a credit card, you will be exempt from Venmo’s standard 3% fee on payments funded by credit cards.

I can’t find the charity profile I’m looking for
If you’re looking for a specific charity, be sure to select the Charities filter after entering your search.
If you still do not see the charity after searching for them by name, you may want to contact that charity directly to confirm that they’re on Venmo.
Charity profiles can also share their Venmo QR code with you. If they’ve shared their code, you can scan it with your Venmo app and go to their profile.
I’m having an issue with my donation
If your donation won’t go through, your connection may have timed out. We recommend trying again later or switching your connection from cellular data to Wi-Fi (if you’re using a mobile device). If you’re still having trouble, please contact our Support team so we can take a closer look.
Will I receive a donation receipt after donating to a Venmo charity profile?
After you send a donation, Venmo will issue a transaction receipt to you and the charity. In the transaction receipt, charities will be given the email address associated with your Venmo account, where they can send a written acknowledgment or receipt of donation if applicable.
We recommend contacting the charity directly with any further questions you have about donation receipts.
How can I spread the word about my favorite charities on Venmo?
After completing a donation, tap the Share button to share a charity profile with your networks outside of Venmo. Here, you can share profiles via text, email, social media, and more. You can likewise tap the 3 dots at the top of a charity’s profile, then tap Share charity.
Depending on your privacy settings, you can also share a charity profile in your Venmo feed.
- If your activity is private, you can invite specific friends to donate. Those friends will receive a notification in their Venmo app, which takes them right to the charity profile you shared.
- If your activity is public or shared with friends, your Venmo network will see your donation in the feed. Donations are highlighted in the feed and include the charity name, photo, and a button for friends to make their own donations.
