Payments & Requests FAQ

How payments work on Venmo

When you send a payment on Venmo, the payment reaches the recipient's Venmo account right away in most instances.

For certain bank-funded transactions, the sender’s bank may need up to 5 business days to process the payment. Venmo will notify you if your payment needs additional time to process, and the payment will be marked as Pending in your Venmo transaction history.

If you're paying with a bank account, it may take a few days for the activity to appear on your bank statement. You can check your recent activity at any time in your personal transactions feed on the Me tab in the Venmo app.

How do I check the status of a Venmo payment?

Tap any payment in your transactions feed to see its status or destination. If the payment is Pending, it may need additional time to process, or the recipient may need to finish setting up their account. Learn more about Pending payments on Venmo.

Didn’t receive a payment you were expecting? Contact the sender first to confirm they used your correct Venmo username or contact info.

How can I change my payment method?

You can’t change your payment method after a payment has been sent.

Before you send a payment, you can check and change your payment method by tapping the bank or card shown at the bottom of the payment composition screen.

If you have access to a Venmo balance and the money there covers the payment you’re making, that’s what will be used to fund the payment. You may need to use or move money from your balance before you can select a bank or card as your payment method.

Why do I see a duplicate charge on my bank statement?

If you’re concerned about a billing error related to activity on Venmo, please contact our Support team.

To reach the Venmo Support team, go to Me > Settings > Get Help > Chat With Us in your Venmo app and ask for an agent.

You can check out Connect with Support on the Contact Us page for other options.

Can I set up automatic recurring payments or charge requests?

Yes, you can schedule payments and requests on Venmo. Learn more about schedule send payments.

Can I use Venmo to pay myself or move money between two of my own payment methods?

No. Venmo is intended only for payments between separate individuals rather than moving money between your own payment methods. You’re also only allowed to have one personal Venmo account at a time.
