Venmo Account with Unclaimed Money

Venmo is required to comply with U.S. unclaimed property laws set by each state. According to these laws, Venmo accounts are generally presumed abandoned when there has been no login or other account activity for 3 years, though this period can vary by jurisdiction.

If your Venmo account has unclaimed property, Venmo may be required to send the money in your account to the appropriate state authority. We will make reasonable efforts to contact you at the email address on file with your Venmo account to inform you of this process.

Prevent your Venmo account from being dormant

To avoid the closure of your account and remittance of your funds to your state, simply log in to your Venmo account using the Venmo app or website. If you don't remember your password, enter your email address, then click or tap "Forgot password?" to reset it.

You can use the money in your Venmo account for payments and purchases or transfer your money to a linked bank or card.

By taking these actions, you can help ensure that your Venmo account remains active and your funds are not considered unclaimed.

Note: Please refer to the email you received for the specific deadline by which you need to access your account.

I missed the deadline to access my Venmo account and unclaimed money

After we attempt to reach you regarding your dormant account and unclaimed money, you will have a specified window of time to access your Venmo account. When that window closes, your funds will be sent to your state and your Venmo account will be closed. At this point, your money is no longer in Venmo's system.

To collect your funds, you can contact your state's unclaimed property department or go to their website and submit a claim.
