Limits: what is the maximum amount I can send?

Follow

Everyone starts out with the following weekly rolling limits:

  • Sending payments - $299.99 per transaction and $299.99 per week
  • Purchasing in other apps with Venmo - $299.99 per transaction and $299.99 per week

There is a combined weekly rolling limit of $299.99 for all transactions. This means the maximum amount of payments you can send on Venmo and spend in apps using a Venmo account in a given week is $299.99 altogether.  For example, if you made purchases in certain apps totaling $100 during a given week, the maximum amount of payments you could send that same week would be $199.99.  Similarly, if you sent payments totaling $250 in a given week, the most you could pay in apps that same week would be $49.99.

Once your identity has been confirmed, your weekly rolling limits will be:

  • Sending payments - $2,999.99 per transaction and $2,999.99 per week
  • Purchasing in other apps with Venmo - $2,000 per transaction and $5,000 per week (including the regular limit for sending payments in Venmo)

This means the maximum amount of payments you can send on Venmo and spend in apps using a Venmo account in a given week is $5,000. However, the limit for sending payments in Venmo remains $2,999.99. For example, if you made purchases in certain apps totaling $3,500 during a given week, the maximum amount of payments you could send that same week would be $1,500.  Similarly, if you sent payments totaling $1,200 in a given week, the most you could pay in any apps that same week would be $3,800.

As noted in Venmo’s User Agreement, these limits may change from time to time in Venmo’s sole discretion.

Rolling limits

If you make a payment at 11am on Monday, then at exactly 11:01am the following Monday, that payment will no longer count against your limit

Confirming your identity

You will need to add the last four digits of your SSN, your zip code, and your birthdate to your Venmo account by logging in from a computer and visiting this page. We may also request additional information or documentation to verify your identity.

Raising your limit

Transaction limits help us screen for suspicious activity, protect your financial security, and keep Venmo a safe place to send and receive money. They also help us keep our costs down so that we can continue providing an awesome service for our users! For these reasons, we cannot increase your limits beyond those described above.
