Always-on Cash Back Changes Effective August 24th

How to enroll in always-on cash back?

You can enroll in always-on cash back from the Venmo app:

  1. Go to the Me tab
  2. Tap Turn on Venmo Stash
  3. Tap Continue

Once enrolled, you're automatically set up to earn cash back. Keep in mind that you can only earn cash back from one of the following Everything stores at a time: Amazon, Walmart, or Target. After making a switch, you’ll need to wait 30 days before you can change it again.

How does always-on cash back work?

Always-on cash back automatically earns you cash back every time you shop using Venmo Debit Card or Venmo checkout at Stash brands. Enroll once, and you're set.

You'll also pick one Everything store, Amazon, Walmart, or Target to earn at, in addition to all the other Stash brands.

How does always-on cash back tier percentage work?

You earn cash back at Stash brands, but you can unlock higher cash back tiers by spending with Venmo at all kinds of stores, not just Stash brands.

  • 1% base rate: Earned automatically once you're enrolled
  • 2% tier: Unlocked once your monthly spend reaches $250
  • 5% tier: Unlocked once your monthly spend reaches $1,500

Your rate applies going forward once you reach a tier. Qualifying spend includes purchases made with your Venmo Debit Card or Venmo checkout, minus any refunds or canceled purchases. Some transaction types, like transfers, don't count toward your total.

If you reach a higher tier partway through the month, you'll keep that tier for the rest of the current month and all of the following month. You can earn up to $100 in cash back per calendar month, combined across all always-on cash back brands.

Can I use always-on cash back and Limited time offers?

Always-on cash back operates alongside the individual Limited time offers program. If there's both an always-on cash back reward and a Limited time offer at the same merchant, you can earn cash back from both programs on the same purchase.

Can I turn off always-on cash back?

You can't turn off your cash back once you've enrolled, but you're in control of how you use it. If you don't shop at the Stash brands, you won't earn cash back.

When will I receive my cash back?

Cash back is typically added to your Venmo account within a few days of your purchase, sometimes immediately. Exact timing can vary by merchant and, in some cases, could take longer.

See the Venmo Rewards Terms for more details on the program.

Where can I see the cash back I’ve earned?

You can see the cash back you've earned in your transaction history under a payment from Venmo Rewards. If you have notifications enabled for "Payment Received," you’ll get both an email and a push notification.

You can also track your progress toward your next cash back tier, including your total qualifying spend for the current and previous calendar month. This view shows purchases, refunds, and canceled transactions, and identifies whether each was made with your Venmo Debit Card or Venmo checkout

What should I do if I am missing my cash back or have received the wrong amount?

If you're missing cash back, here are a few steps to take:
  • Consider Processing Time: Most cash back offers are typically paid within 30 days. Customer support cannot expedite this process. For more details, review the Venmo Rewards Terms.
  • Check for Returns or Refunds: If you return an item or receive a refund, we'll adjust your cash back rewards accordingly to reflect the updated purchase amount. For example, if you earn 15% cash back on a $100 purchase, but then return $20 worth of items, your cash back rewards will be adjusted to reflect the new total of $80.
  • Check the always-on cash back monthly cap: Always-on cash back is capped at $100 per calendar month, combined across all brands. Once you reach the cap, additional purchases that month won't earn more cash back.
  • Check whether a tier changed mid-month: Your cash back tier applies going forward from the moment you qualify; it isn't applied retroactively to earlier purchases in the same month. If you’ve checked all these and still believe you are missing cash back, reach out to us for assistance.
