How can I add money to my Venmo balance?

You can add money to your Venmo balance directly within the Venmo app.

Follow these steps to initiate the add money transfer:

1. Go to the Me tab
2. Tap Add Money
3. Select From a bank or debit card 
4. Enter your amount and choose what payment method you want to use 
5. Tap Add

Once the transfer is initiated, you cannot cancel it.

Here are just a few things to keep in mind:

• You don’t need to have money in your Venmo account to make payments to other Venmo users - you can fund payments to other Venmo users using a linked payment method
•  If you change your mind after initiating a transfer to your Venmo balance, you can transfer it back to your bank once it is completed 
• If your transfer to your Venmo balance fails, you will be notified via email, and the funds will not move from your bank to your Venmo balance
• You can check the status of your transfer in the Venmo app, in your personal transactions feed under the Me tab  

What is the difference between adding money from a bank or a debit card?

Adding money from a debit card is typically available instantly.

Adding money from a bank typically takes 3-5 business days to reach your Venmo balance, and the funds from that transfer won’t be available until the transfer is completed on Venmo.

Adding money from a bank may:

• Have its transfer time impacted by weekends or holidays
• Create a completed charge in your bank account while the transfer is processing and before those funds reach your Venmo account

If the money doesn’t arrive in your Venmo account after 5 full business days, please contact Venmo Support.

I tried to add money with my bank account and got declined.

Before you can use a bank account to add money to Venmo, it needs to be verified. If you’ve already verified your bank account on Venmo, there are a few other reasons why your attempt to add money may be declined:

• Your bank returned a notice of insufficient funds for your requested transfer. This information may not be up to date, so please try later or use a debit card instead.
• You’ve hit your transfer limit for the rolling week. Learn more about Venmo transfer limits.
• The transfer attempt triggered an automated security flag, resulting in a decline. There isn’t a way to override these declines, so you may need to try again later or explore other options

Can I automatically transfer money to my Venmo balance?

Yes! You can set up automatic reloads for when your balance reaches the minimum amount you set, and then a reload for the amount you choose will be processed from the selected linked bank account or debit card.

Example: Add $50 from my linked debit card into my Venmo Balance when my balance falls below $25.

Transferring money out of your Venmo account through a Standard or Instant Transfer will not trigger an automatic reload.

How do I manage my automatic reload?

You can set up or make any changes to your automatic reload by going to the Me tab and following the steps below: 

1. Tap Add Money
2. Select Auto Reload 
3. Select Reload Amount, and enter the amount you will want reloaded every time
4. Tap Save
5. Select Minimum balance, set the minimum balance you want to trigger the reloads 
6. Tap Save

You can come here to toggle off your automatic reload at any time.

How do I manage my scheduled reloads?

To set up a schedule for adding money to your account, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to the Me tab
2. Select Add Money
3. Select Schedule
4. Set your amount and frequency
5. Choose which payment method you would like to have the money transfer from

You can turn off your scheduled reload by turning the switch off. You have until 11:59 PM PT the night before the payment is scheduled to cancel.
