Why was the payment or refund I received placed on hold?

Your transaction is on hold due to an open dispute investigation. Placing payments on hold is a common industry practice that helps ensure a safer environment for users It can be concerning when funds are on hold for a payment you’ve received, but remember that having a payment on hold doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong.

To find out more about more details about your money on hold, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Me tab
  2. Select transactions
  3. Locate the transaction with the On-hold tag, select the transaction

In the payment details, you will be able to see the clear reasoning for why your money is on hold and if there are any actions you need to complete before the money can be released.

If there are no problems with the transaction, you’ll have the money available in your account once the hold is complete. You can track the details of this process within your Venmo app under your Transactions.

What does it mean I didn’t have sufficient money for an outstanding hold?
