Following up on a Dispute

How can I view my ongoing dispute or provide additional information?

You can check the status of your dispute by opening the Venmo app and navigating to the Disputes section of the app.

  1. Go to the Me tab
  2. Tap the Settings icon near the top of the screen
  3. Tap Get Help
  4. Select Disputes and tap on your case
  5. If we need anything from you, you'll see a We need more information prompt – tap it to submit documents or details

Why was the payment or refund I received placed on hold?

Your transaction is on hold due to an open dispute investigation. Placing payments on hold is a common industry practice that helps ensure a safer environment for users It can be concerning when funds are on hold for a payment you’ve received, but remember that having a payment on hold doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong.

To find out more about more details about your money on hold, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Me tab
  2. Select transactions
  3. Locate the transaction with the On-hold tag, select the transaction

In the payment details, you will be able to see the clear reasoning for why your money is on hold and if there are any actions you need to complete before the money can be released.

If there are no problems with the transaction, you’ll have the money available in your account once the hold is complete. You can track the details of this process within your Venmo app under your Transactions.

What does it mean I didn’t have sufficient money for an outstanding hold?

At the time of the dispute, your balance did not have enough money to cover the total amount of the hold. When money is received in your account, we may apply those funds to your on-hold balance until your case is resolved.
