Why Can't I Join This Group?

Basic requirements for joining Venmo groups

There are a number of reasons you may not be able to join a group on Venmo. If you're having trouble joining, note that some profiles won't be eligible to use this feature:

  • Some Venmo accounts, like Teen Accounts or Business Profiles, are ineligible to join groups.
  • If your Venmo account is restricted, you won’t be able to use the Groups feature. In these cases, you would have received a notification from Venmo about your account status. You can contact Venmo Support for assistance with your account.

If you're eligible to use Venmo groups and are still having trouble, one of the following factors may be preventing you from joining a group:

  • You need to be invited to join a group by a current group member. If your invitation is rescinded or expires, you won’t be able to join the group without a fresh invitation.
  • Groups are limited to 30 members, so if there are too many people already in the group, you won’t be able to join. You are also only able to be in 20 groups at one time.
  • If you have blocked a group member on Venmo, or if another member has blocked you, you won’t be able to join the same group. You can still use other Venmo features and you may be able to join other groups.

I was removed from a group

If your Venmo account becomes restricted, you'll automatically be removed from any groups you're part of.

You can also be removed from a group even if your Venmo account is in good standing, if another member chooses to remove or block you.

All members in a Venmo group can remove (or invite) other members.

If you block another Venmo user who is a member of the group, we may prompt you to leave the group as a way to fulfill our promise of limiting interactions with that user.

Think you were removed from a group by accident? You'll need to ask another member to add or invite you again.
