What is a Teen Account?
The Venmo Teen Account allows 13-17-year-olds to use certain Venmo features while their parent or guardian has visibility and control over the account activity. Teen accounts have two main features: the Venmo Teen Debit Card and, at the parent’s discretion, usage of the Venmo app. With safety and security in mind, the parent or guardian can decide to invite the teen to use the Venmo app at any time after the account is created. Teens will still be able to use the Venmo Teen Mastercard(R) whether or not they’re using the app.
Teens will get a Venmo Teen Debit Card in their name and, if invited to create an app account, can track the account balance and transactions in the app. As the owner of the account, the parent or guardian will have the ability to add money and track the teen account transactions from their existing Venmo account.
Can more than one parent manage a Teen Account?
The Teen Account is created and linked to one personal Venmo account. Only one parent or guardian will have access to create, control, or view the Teen Account.
Is there an age requirement?
The Teen Account needs to be created and managed by a parent or guardian that is 18 years or older. Teen Account users can range in age from 13 to 17 years old at the time of account creation.
Does a Teen Account have the same functionality as a regular Venmo Account?
The Teen Account will have limited functionality compared to a regular account.
The teen using the Venmo Teen Account will be able to:
- Use the Venmo Teen Debit Card
- Set up Direct Deposit
-
Use the app, with limited features, if their parent or guardian invites them
- Send and receive Person-to-Person payments with friends and family
- Add additional payment methods to the Teen Account
Note: The parent or guardian will be notified when a Teen Account sends or receives money and when the Teen Account adds any additional payment methods.
The Venmo Teen Account will not be able to:
- Initiate bank transfers of the teen account balance to or from Venmo
- Sign up for the Venmo Credit Card
- Create a Business or Charity Profile

Does my teen need to have a phone to use the Teen Account?
This is not a requirement to open or use a Teen Account. To use the Venmo app with a Teen Account, your teen will need access to a device where they can use the web or the app.
Every Teen Account comes with a Venmo Teen Debit Card that does not require app access for use. Parents or guardians can still track transactions and add money to the teen account balance without providing their teen access to the app.
Where can my teen use the Venmo Teen Debit Card
The teen debit card can be used anywhere that Mastercard is accepted in the U.S. and U.S. territories.
The Teen Debit Card will not be able to transact at certain merchants that are restricted based on their merchant category codes. These restrictions will also apply to payments made by teens in the Venmo app.
