Looking for more information about checking out with Venmo on Amazon? Here are some frequently asked questions.
For the best experience, we recommend updating your Venmo app to the latest version.
I want to use Venmo for online purchases
If you’re interested in using Venmo for purchases on the web (not through another app), you will need to go through the process of connecting Venmo as a payment method to the merchant. Once you select Venmo, you'll be redirected to your Venmo app to authorize future transactions from that merchant.
Why do I see multiple transactions in Venmo for a single purchase?
Most purchases involve an initial authorization hold for the estimated total amount of your purchase, followed by a final capture wherein the total is finalized. When this happens, funds are transferred to the merchant, and the transaction is completed.
Some purchases allow the merchant to capture smaller parts of the total at different times, like when two items ship separately. In this scenario, the transaction is completed only when the final capture is submitted by the merchant. When this happens, the larger authorization hold will be released back to your account.
Keep in mind that bank-funded transactions can take 1-3 business days to appear on your statement once the merchant has completed them.
You can change your selected payment method for future purchases like these in your Venmo app. To adjust your payment method for future payments:
- Go to the Me tab by tapping your picture or initials
- Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner
- Tap Connected Business
- Select your merchant
- Select or add the payment method you would like to use
Why don't I see my credit cards as a payment option?
Due to limitations between Venmo and certain merchants, sometimes payment methods that are active on a user's account may not appear during checkout.
My payment method isn’t showing up for a particular merchant.
If a payment method is visible in the Payment Methods section of the Venmo app, and it doesn’t appear during checkout with a particular merchant, it means that the merchant is not able to process payments from that payment method. This can be due to network restrictions or merchant requirements.
There is an unauthorized online purchase on my Venmo account.
If you have noticed an unauthorized charge on your account, please reach out to us. We will take the necessary steps to secure your account and open a dispute on the transaction.
I would like to cancel my purchase.
I can see the urgency of this request, and I understand the importance of your purchase as soon as possible. For the fastest resolution, please attempt to contact the merchant directly.
Why was my refund more than my purchase?
Your refund amount will vary by merchant. Some merchants can choose to provide a refund for more than the original purchase amount.
How long does a refund take?
The timing for a refund depends on the policy of the online merchant you purchased it from. Once the merchant issues the refund to us, it can take 1-5 business days to process. If you have any questions about your refund, don't hesitate to reach out to the merchant.
I’m not satisfied with my online purchase. Who do I contact?
If you’re not satisfied with a purchase you made with Venmo through an authorized partner’s app or website, please contact the merchant first. They should be able to assist further.
If you are not able to come to a solution with the business, please reach out to us. While we don’t guarantee a refund, we’ll work with you to help you come to a solution. Your purchases may be eligible for the Venmo Purchase Program.
