What’s the difference between my physical card number and my virtual card number?
There are several ways to use your Venmo Credit Card account: you can make online purchases using your virtual card number, you can use your physical card in stores and online, or you can use your Venmo Credit Card as a payment method within the Venmo app.
Your physical card number can be used in-person and online. It comes with a chip and supports contactless payments and cash advances.
Your virtual card number can be accessed in the Venmo Credit Card section of the Venmo app. Please note that you will need to confirm the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number to view the virtual card number, expiration date, and CVV.
Can I use my Venmo Credit Card to make payments to other Venmo users?
Your Venmo Credit Card is automatically added as a payment method on Venmo. That means you can use your card to make payments to friends and authorized merchants using the Venmo app.
What is an authorization?
When you make a purchase using your Venmo Credit Card, the merchant will authorize your card for the initial amount of your purchase. This is called a merchant authorization, and it allows the merchant to first ensure that your Venmo Credit Card is open and working. The transaction will appear as a pending charge on your transaction history until the merchant completes the transaction and posts the final amount.
What is a capture?
Funds will not be transferred to the merchant until they finalize the transaction and capture the final amount. Once a merchant captures an authorization, you’ll see the purchase finalized in your Venmo app for the final amount. Please note that most merchants will capture a transaction in 1-7 business days. If your transaction is still pending after 7 business days, please contact Synchrony Bank at 855-878-6462.
Why was the final amount (capture) different than the initial authorization?
There may be a difference between the amount that you see when you initially authorize a purchase, and the final capture amount. Some merchants place a hold larger than the transaction amount to cover incidentals or tips (such as "pay at the pump" for fuel, or at restaurants, hotels, and car rental locations). If no incidentals took place, or you tipped more or less than the hold amount, your final transaction amount will reflect that difference.
Can I add my Venmo Credit Card to another virtual wallet?
You can add your Venmo Credit Card to virtual wallets like Samsung Pay and Google Pay™. Apple Pay® does not allow users to add their Venmo Credit Card. If you have any questions about adding your card, please reach out to the specific virtual wallet provider.
What are the benefits and rewards for the Venmo Credit Card?
With the Venmo Credit Card, you can easily split purchases with friends on Venmo in the Venmo app, earn cash back rewards on your eligible purchases*, and pay your bill using the money in your Venmo account. Better yet, there’s no annual fee** for the Venmo Credit Card.
What do I do if I have unauthorized activity on my Venmo Credit Card?
If you need to report any unauthorized transactions, please reach out to Synchrony Bank at 855-878-6462. You will not be liable for unauthorized use on your account, but you will be responsible for all use by anyone you allow to use your account. If you would like to temporarily disable your physical card for any reason, you can do so in the Venmo Credit Card section of your Venmo app. You can return to the same section when you are ready to re-enable your physical card.
