How to sign up for Visa+ with Venmo
You can sign up for Visa+ in the Venmo app by creating a Payname to send money from Venmo to a PayPal account (or vice versa). Your Payname is a username that will be used to receive money to your Venmo account. It cannot be changed.
Follow these steps in the Venmo app to get started making your Visa+ Payname:
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap the Settings gear
- Tap Send Money to PayPal (under "Buying")
- Tap Next on the popup to continue
- On the next page, create your Payname
- If you haven't yet completed identity verification, you'll be prompted to do so before you can proceed
- Tap Agree and create to set up your Visa+ profile
Once you’re signed up, you can share your Payname with people who want to send money to your Venmo account, or tap Send to make a payment to a PayPal account.
Why am I being asked to submit personal information to use Visa+?
Venmo is required to gather certain information from users before they can utilize Visa+. This verification also allows you to send money to PayPal. If you’d rather not submit this information, you can still use other Venmo features.
How do I deactivate my Payname?
You can deactivate your Visa+ Payname in the Venmo app with these steps:
- Go to the Me tab
- Tap the Settings gear in the top right
- Tap Send Money to PayPal
- Tap the toggle to deactivate your payname
You can reactivate your Visa+ Payname by following the same steps.
When your Payname is deactivated, you will no longer be able to receive Visa+ payments. You will, however, be able to send Visa+ payments and send and receive other Venmo payments.
