Once your group has expenses added, you can settle payments with other group members. Read on to learn more.
What’s a Group Split? How do I make payments to the group members?
Adding an expense to a group acts like record keeping, but it doesn’t move any money. When it comes time to make payments to group members, you can use the group split to make sure everything gets paid:
- Go to your Groups hub on the Me tab
- Tap the relevant group
- Tap Pay at the top of the activity feed
If you have money due to multiple people, you can review the specific amounts or remove people from this payment. Once you’ve paid everything due to group members, and once everyone has paid you, you’ll see a message that you’re all paid up at the top of the feed.
I don’t understand how I ended up with this amount due to or due from me
We calculate the amounts due to and due from you based on the expenses you’ve been involved with. If you’re unsure how you ended up with a specific amount, please review the group’s expenses:
- Go to your Groups hub on the Me tab
- Tap the relevant group
- Tap Group summary at the top of the activity feed
- Check the Expense feed
Look to see if any expenses were edited or if you have any outstanding expenses you meant to add to the group.
I have money due to me from a group. How do I remind members to pay?
If you have money due to you from a group, you can remind members to pay in the Venmo app:
- Go to your Groups hub on the Me tab
- Tap the relevant group
- Tap Request at the top of the activity feed
If you have money due from multiple people, you can review the specific amounts or remove people from this payment. When you hit Request, we’ll send a reminder to the relevant members.
Someone paid outside of Venmo. Can I mark them paid?
If an amount is due to or due from you, but the payment is settled outside of Venmo, you can mark it paid in the Venmo app:
- Go to your Groups hub on the Me tab
- Tap the relevant group
- Tap Group summary at the top of the activity feed
- In the Members tab, tap Mark as paid
- Confirm you want to mark the payment as paid and tap Mark as paid
Once you finish, you’ll see the relevant dollar amounts updated in the app.
